Easing into Parenthood

Hello again from the SoCalAllens. Again we have been slow to update our blog so let us take you on a verbal and visual journey of the last ten weeks.

This is Jill in August, or week 25ish, looking oh-so-adorable posing in front of one of our neighborhood palms.

On August 26, Jill's sister Leslie married Lee Willis on a bluff in Malibu overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The Willises, or Willi, had a beautiful wedding. Here's one shot to give you a glimpse.

In September we enjoyed a nice visit from Lee and Susan. They showered us with baby gifts, ensuring that our little boy will be the best dressed infant in all of Santa Monica. We also enjoyed Susan's culinary expertise and learned a few new recipes along the way.

Here is a picture of Lee, Jill, Peter, and Risa taking a walk on the beach before dinner.

In the next few weeks, as Jill's belly continued to grow, we started to realize that there may be a little boy inside of her that would need nourishment and shelter. In an effort to prepare for this possible eventuality, we decided to build a bassinet. As luck would have it, the bassinet was defective so Peter and Jill toiled fruitlessly for hours until they scientifically proved that it was in fact impossible to put together.

On this same night, we explained to Risa that she would have a little brother soon. Accustomed to being spoiled as an only child and sole granddogger, Risa needed some alone time to absorb the news and come to terms with this new reality.

After waiting a few more weeks for replacement parts to arrive from Norway, the nice folks at Baby Furniture delivered a fully-assembled bassinet for our baby room/office/guestroom. Thanks to our friends Amy Harmon and Stephanie Josephson, the bassinet is tastefully decorated with astrological, canine, and fire truck influences.

On one of our walks around the neighborhood last weekend, we decided to bring a camera with us to satisfy the appetite of those of you who have yet to see Jill's belly in all of its splendid glory.

Here is a favorite from the day with the purple flowers as a nice backdrop.

Another picture has Jill on the Bluffs with the Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach in the distance.

In this picture, there's a hint of palm trees and the hills of Malibu in the distance.

This final picture is from last night before heading to Third Street Promenade to see a movie. Isn't she beautiful?

We will try to put together another blog around Halloween after Peter returns from Raleigh and after we gather pictures from the baby showers.

Wishing you all the best,

The SoCalAllens
